COACHES
Our coaches act as role models for our swimmers in regard to good sportsmanship, fair play, cooperation, manners and team spirit. We ask all swimmers and parents to offer their support whenever possible. Feel free to contact the head coach by email or before or after practice. Coaches will be busy with many duties during practice and need to be focused on the swimmers. Any questions regarding swimming issues should be directed to the coaches. Any management issues should be directed to a board member. Coaches will make sure that all swimmers are taught the correct strokes, starts and turns, and will recommend additional assistance if necessary. Coaches will keep times on each swimmer and update the records regularly. The coaches have the final say in completing heat sheets for the swim meets. Please get to know our coaches. This helps everyone communicate and get a better understanding of how the swimmers are progressing.
MEET THE HEAD COACH
Jeffrey Burt
Dear Hobcaw Families,
My name is Jeffrey Burt, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Head Coach of the Hobcaw Marlins! I’m really looking forward to meeting all of you and working with your swimmers this summer.
I’ve spent over 30 years in education and am currently a social studies teacher at Lucy Beckham High School. Most of my career was in Connecticut, and my wife and I recently moved to Charleston to be closer to her family. Swimming has been a lifelong passion of mine, starting as a summer swimmer and competing through college (and now occasionally swimming with the Charleston Masters team).
I’ve coached swimmers at many levels, including summer leagues, high school teams, and club programs. My philosophy for summer swimming is to balance skill development and personal goals with the fun, friendships, and team spirit that make summer swimming such a special experience. I see this season as a great opportunity for younger swimmers to grow in confidence while enjoying a sport I’ve loved since childhood.
I’m excited for a great summer with the Marlins and look forward to getting started in April. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions as I’m happy to help.
See you at the pool!
JUNIOR COACHES
Junior Coaches will be specifically working with the younger age groups. Junior coaches will be assigned to work with individuals or small groups of younger swimmers during regular practices. The junior coaches are all older swimmers on the team with many years of swimming experience.
